#PivotPhl Part 4

Pivot with the power of positivity! The pandemic has affected so many and the way we do fitness. My experience was a rough pivot, but shift happens, right.

I am an extrovert and such a people person and fuel off of others. I truly enjoy being around people and interacting through my(and their) enjoyment of fitness.

‘The before times’ had me actively working out in big groups, coaching run groups, massive races and leading fitness/wellness in my workplace in Baltimore, Maryland.

Virtual shift happens…

Through my work I provided virtual wellness to my colleague's new workplace, their home. Adjustments were made due to space, people around and the break from the screen yet still on the screen. It was tricky, but always encouraged to take that time for their wellness. I led wellness initiatives including mindfulness, breathwork, chair/mat yoga, pilates (Pumpkin Pilates in October was fun!), gym-free workouts and nutrition education.

Group workout/run shift happens...

I enjoyed small group and social distance runs/workouts with my accountabilibuddies Amy & Julianne. My roommate Marie also did some running together. Saturday morning 100-10 solo to small social distance style crew occured where I would get in a total of 5k distance running wise. The November Project community held some virtual workouts I participated in that were fun and paired with some outdoor running on my own.

Race shift happens...

I did a couple virtual races that helped with my goals to get out there and run and build up to the race distances. I found organizations that donate to causes to give back. I kept them shorter distances as I am an all activities gal and enjoy getting into a variety of ways to workout, Woo!

P to P > Pivot to Philadelphia….

I made a big transition from Baltimore to Philadelphia in May, 2021, with my roommate moving on and ending my lease (after living in the same townhome for 8+ years) and being laid off from my job. Onto a new city and a new fitness community. I have discovered many groups in Philly and enjoy showing up! #justshowup

Philly fitness groups, ‘the now’, shift happens...

Grateful for the November Project Fitness community that I have participated in for 7 years when living in Baltimore and now the NP Philly group. I have traveled to 8 other cities to workout with NP groups and their epic Summit 7(<All in the ‘before times’) and heading to Summit 9 too, woo! The group hosts regular workouts including the connectedness and friendship building I need.

Building on my enjoyment of fitness, in a new city, including the bicycle scene with rides through the city. Wednesday night run and chug group, waterfront wellness yoga and monthly mural miles!

Feeling fuller with the IRC and the open arms and comradery that come with their fitness and social meetups. Track workouts have been great to build up my running ability on that nice surface of the track!

It felt great to be back to in-person races and running in the Philly 10K and the Philly Distance Run and I also took a trip back to Baltimore for the 20th anniversary of the Baltimore Running Festival running in the 10k. I am pumped to participate in the Philadelphia Marathon weekend and will be racing in the 8k and cheering on the other races especially on Sunday with some great friends running the full Marathon!

Fitness can fuel… Fuel a healthy body and mind and most importantly for me the connectedness I thrive among like minded individuals down for fitness and fun in ‘the now’ time!
